010 The Old Logging Trail

010 The Old Logging Trail

This logging trail was abandoned in 1987. The trees you see grew back on their own because the area above the trail was not logged heavily. At the top portion of the mountain remains primary forest. The plan is to slowly acclimate, through the incremental movement of plants from higher up on the mountain downward to the level of the "trail". In that way the ecological tourists can see the endemic species without leaving the trail so they do not trudge through the upper primary forest. It takes several years to move the plants midway down the mountain.
